Ethnography Research Methods

In book Ethnography Method, James P. Spradley suggests that ethnography is to describe a cultural occupation. The purpose of this activity is to understand a view of life from the perspective of indigenous peoples. Spradley's view is based on the opinions of Bronislaw Malinowski who sees that the goal of ethnography is to understand the native point of view, to do with life, to get his view about his world.

Referring to the understanding that, Spradley went on to say that ethnography is not only studying the community, but beyond that ethnography also learn from the community.

Furthermore, Spradley said that the meanings that can be observed by ethnographic researchers divided into two areas namely unexpressed meanings and hidden meanings. Meaning that it can be observed directly expressed through language, while the hidden can be observed through the words and also indirectly through the behavior of the sources observed.

In a sense, Ethnographic Method according Suwardi Endaswara a study to describe the culture as it is. That is, in this research the researcher's role only as a registrar and / or observer of an event that took place without the intervention of the researcher to direct the event.
