Case Studies as Research Strategy

Case studies, as formulated by Robert K. Yin, is a method that refers to research that has the elements of how and why the main research questions and examine contemporary issues (the present) and the least chance of researchers in control of events (cases) are examined.

The case study is an empirical inquiry that investigates this phenomenon in the context of real life, when the boundaries between phenomenon and context do not appear explicitly, and where multi-source utilized. (Yin, 2008:18)

The case study itself, according to Robert K. Yin is divided into three types namely explanatory case studies, exploratory and descriptive. The third type is based on the type and purpose of the research questions.

Furthermore, K. Yin explained that case studies allow researchers to retain the holistic and meaningful characteristics of real life events such as sirklus real life. This explanation becomes the basis that the case study have characteristics of qualitative research in which the natural background.
