Earthquake in Myanmar (Thursday, March 24, 2011)

The quake rocked Myanmar, Thursday, March 24, 2011 night. Two citizens of Myanmar were reportedly killed after an earthquake measuring 6.8 rocked the region. Each victim killed a child and an female.

"We received reports that a small child were killed in the area Tachileik when the walls of the building collapsed in the earthquake," said local government officials. Tachileik is one of the areas near the border of Myanmar and Thailand are close to the epicenter.

Meanwhile, the second victim confirmed by the Governor of Chiang Rai, Somchai Hatayatanti. It is based on reports from Colonel Thanomsak Yospan, Police Chief Distik Mae Sai. Yospan say if the victim a 52-year-old woman who was also killed by falling walls of buildings that collapsed. In addition, three different people in the area reportedly injured.

Two earthquakes shook the border region of Myanmar and Thailand each with a strength of 6.8 at 8:55 AM and 5.4 at 9:23 PM. Initially, the USGS (United States Geological Survey) was recorded earthquake strength 7.0 and 4.8 but was soon corrected. Because of the strong vibration was reported to Hanoi, capital of Myanmar Naypidaw, even Bangkok which is about 800 km.
